Two parasitoid wasps, Torymus artemisiae Mayr and Torymoides violaceus (Nikol’skaya), were reared on Artemisia herba-alba (Asteraceae) galles, in central Iran. Torymus artemisiae and T. violaceus were developed from the gall midges: Rhopalomyia navasi Tavares and R. hispanica Tavares, respectively. The occurrence of these two parasitic wasps in Iran, and their associations with R. navasi and R. hispanica, are new. Data on the wasps’ biological associations and geographical distribution are provided. The parasitoid compositions of the genus Rhopalomyia (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) were also discussed.
The first representative of the subfamily Platynocheilinae of Tetracampidae, Platynocheilus cuprifrons (NEES), is recorded as new in the Polish fauna, based on a male collected in Lower Silesia.
Ten hymenopteran species of the family Ichneumonidae (2 species) and superfamily Chalcidoidea (8 species) had been reared from cocoons of Callisto denticulella (THNBG.). Such parasitoids as Gelis areator (PANZ.), Chrysocharis pentheus WALK., Pedobius saulius WALK., Dibrachys cavus WALK., Eupelmus fulvipes FÖRSTER, Eupelmus urozonus DALMAN, Eurytoma goidanichi BOUCEK and Parablastothrix montana ERDÖS had not been reported from the host before. E. fulvipes, E. goidanichi and P. montana are species new to Poland.
Four species of the genus Entedon DALMAN (Eulophidae: Entedoninae) are recorded from Poland for the first time: Entedon cardui ASKEW (Lower Silesia), E. fuscitarsis THOMSON (Western Sudety Mts and Eastern Beskidy Mts), E. sparetus WALKER (Lower Silesia) and E. sylvestris SZELENYI (Lower Silesia).
Two species of eulophid wasps are recorded from Poland for the first time: Horismenus specularis (ERDÖS) (Entedoninae) from Lower Silesia and Stenomesius rufescens WESTWOOD (Eulophinae) from the Eastern Beskidy Mts. Notes on key characters and illustrations of the recorded taxa are given.
Two species of pteromalid wasps are recorded from Poland for the first time: Mesopolobus pseudofuscipes ROSEN, reared from galls of Rabdophaga salicis (SCHRANK) (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) on willow, collected in the Wielkopolsko-Kujawska Lowland, and Mesopolobus xanthocerus (THOMSON), reared from a gall of Biorhiza pallida (OLIVIER) (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) on oak, taken in Lower Silesia.
A very rare species of Eurytomidae, Systole hofferi, is for the first time reported to occur in Poland. The specimen was collected in Wrocław Świniary, Lower Silesia, SW Poland.
Three Chalcididae, namely Brachymeria ceratoniae Delvare sp. nov., Proconura persica sp. nov. and Psilochalcis ceratoniae Delvare sp. nov., are described from Iran. They were all reared from the carob moth Apomyelois ceratoniae (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), the main pest of Ceratonia siliqua. Invreia subita Nikol'skaya, 1960 is formally transferred to the genus Psilochalcis. A lectotype is designated for Brachymeria confalonierii Masi, 1929.
The rearing of 3864 larvae and 1005 pupae of 10 apple leafminers species was conducted in 1996-1998. Parasitoids were obtained from 7 of 10 species of moths involved in the rear. As a result 2092 imagines of parasitoids were obtained belonging to 35 species from 5 families and 9 subfamilies of terebrantia (Hymenoptera - Parasitica). Achrysocharoides latreillei CURT., Cirrospilus diallus WALK., Sympiesis gregori BOUCEK, Elachertus inunctus NEES and Triclistus spilacularis THOMS. are reported as parasitoids of leaf-mining moths occurring on apple trees for the first time.
A total of nineteen parasitoid species were recorded from agromyzid leafminers in some sites of Middle Anatolia. These species were: Diglyphus iseae (Walker), D. pachyneurus Graham, D. crassinervis Erdös, D. pusztenzis (Erdös&Novicky), D. begini (Ashmead), Baryscapus sp., Hemiptarsenus zilahisebessi Erdös, Pnigalio soemius (Walker), Neochrysocharis formosa (Westwood), N. clara Szelenyi, N. arvensis Graham, N. chlorogaster (Erdös), Chrysocharis pentheus (Walker), C. phyrne (Walker), C. pubicornis (Zetterstedt), C. viridis (Nees), Pediobius metallicus (Walker) (Eulophidae), Epiclerus panyas (Walker) (Tetracampidae), and Merismus sp. (Pteromalidae). Among the parasitoids reared, Diglyphus begini and Chrysocharis viridis have been for the first time found in Turkey, D. crassinervis, H. zilahisebessi, N. clara and E. panyas were recorded from Chromatomyia horticola and P. soemius was recorded from Liriomyza strigata were recorded for the first time.
The first record of Chalcis sispes from Poland is presented; two specimens of the species were captured on July 1997 in Suwałki Landscape Park (north-eastern Poland). It is the second species of the genus recorded from Poland so far the first one, Chalcis myrifex (SULZER, 1776), was found in Warsaw environs at the end of the 19th century.
The guilds of primary parasitoids (Ichneumonoidea: Aphidiidae, Chalcidoidea: Aphelinidae) as well as hyperparasitoids (Chalcidoidea: Pteromalidae, Encyrtidae, Eulophidae; Cynipoidea: Charipidae: Alloxystinae, Ceraphronoidea: Megaspilidae) of the two aphid species (Homoptera: Aphididae): Aphis fabae SCOP. on spindle tree and Aphis sambuci L. on common elder in midfield thickets are presented. A role of the midfield thickets, especially of the habitat and the aphid host plants as reservoirs of the parasitoids is discussed.
