In the paper there were described - on the basis of domestic and foreign literature review - problems related to significance of forecrop for canopy architecture and yield components of winter wheat, crop which is known among the cereals as the most affected by its placing in crop rotation. Either, its share and that of other cereals in tbe crops area increase in the last years surpassing the „tolerance treshold", being established as 65-75% for the settlement conditions in Poland. It means that the cerealsare grown each after other during 2 and even 3 years. Neglecting rotation that determines the choice of forecrop plant and retaining of long enough pauses in cultivating given crop species leads to the degradation of physicat biological and chemical properties of the soil, increase in weeding, infection with pathogenic fungi, resulting in yield decrease. In the review - covering 58 literature references - based on the data concerning natural and production aftermaths of growing winter wheat in various rotations, good and less useful forecrops for this species were indicated and it was underlined the sensitivity of wheat to forecrop and to whole crop rotation. Leguminous plants and their mixtures with cereals cultivated for green fodder or for seeds (species and cultivars of shorter vegetation period).Winter rape, early potatoes and mid-early potatoes cultivated on farmyard manure and the oats are known as the best winter wheat forecrops all over the country. Alternative forecrops could be: clover and other perennials, sugar beets. late potatoes and maize. while the very bad forecrops for winter wheat are: wheat. barley, rye and triticale.
We studied the influence of low doses of γ radiation (from 0.04 to 1.8 mGy) on the stability of human red blood cells (RBC) from healthy donors and diabetic patients using absorption spectroscopy. Because of the alteration of many enzymatic pathways in diabetic RBCs resulting in strong modification of the lipid and protein membrane components one could expect that the ionizing γ-radiation should influence the stability of the healthy and diabetic cells in a different way. Indeed, distinct discontinuities and monotonic changes of hemolysis detected in the healthy and diabetic RBCs suggest that various enzymatic and chemical processes are activated in these membranes by γ radiation. Mössbauer measurements showed that only the highest applied dose of γ radiation caused modification of hemoglobin in both types of RBCs.
Rivers and streams in cities are treated as urbanised watercourses because of their significant transformation. Their load, channeling and incorporation into the water-sewerage infrastructure are often so considerable that such watercourses can hardly be recognised as an intrinsic component of surface waters. Anthropopressure, as reflected in quantitative and qualitative degradation caused by flow regulation and economic development in the drainage basin area, makes evaluation of the impact of human activity on the aquatic environment somewhat difficult. Based on the recommendations of the Water Framework Directive, an attempt has been made to assess the ecological state of selected tributaries of the Prądnik-Białucha River within the Krakow Conurbation. Aquatic environment sampling of the Sudół Dominikański (Rozrywka) watercourse was performed (September 2005) in order to determine some physicochemical, chemical and biological parameters, paying particular attention to macrophytes. The parameters measured on site: pH, electrolytic conductivity and Eh of water and bottom sediments, and sozological observations, were subjected to analysis. In the laboratory, concentrations of heavy metals, both in water and in solid particles (sediments and suspended matter) and anions in water were determined. The environmental state of the Sudół Dominikański watercourse was compared with that in the area of the Prądnik-Białucha River valley, for which an assessment had been conducted in the previous year (September 2004).
