The water intake situated at Rybacka Street in Wolin was established in the beginning of the 20th century. It is situated in the close vicinity of the existing apartment and business buildings and the water and sewage systems as well. On the fenced parcel ca 50x80 m besides the objects of: – building of the water-supply station, – warehouse – workshop building with sanitary facilities, – household building, – building of the current generating plant, are situated the deep-water wells No. 6 and No. 9 now in the operational use. The other deep-water wells being now in the operational use are the well No. 10 situated at Rybacka Street in the distance ~ 90 m from the intake parcel border as well as the well No. 5 situated in the distance ~ 220 m from the parcel border.
Miedwie Lake is the biggest post-glacial lake of the West-Pomeranian Voievodship. At the same time it is the fifth of the largest lakes in Poland. As regards the geographical situation, Miedwie Lake is situated centrally between three big agglomerations i.e. Szczecin, Stargard Szczecinski and Pyrzyce (Fig. 1). The lake lies on the territory of three municipalities: Pyrzyce and Warnice in the District of Pyrzyce as well as Stargard Szczecinski in the District of Stargard (Rozmiarek 1983, Szyper 1990). At the moment, the reservoir is characterised with the regular, prolonged shape resembling an ellipse. Banks are shallow, regular and sometime very wet. The lake has the belt of the nearshore reaching locally tens metres far from the lake bank, what is the reason, together with the fact that the wind blows always here, that it is convenient for practising the various kinds of water sports. The lake area amounts to 3 527 ha; maximal depth – 43.8 m; average depth – 19.3 m; water capacity – 681.7 mln m3; shore-line length – 38.8 km; water level datum 14.1 m above sea level; maximal width 3.16 km; maximal length 16.2 km. The lake’s bottom is the lowest situated area on the territory of Poland.
Tests were done on the model station situated on the territory of Szczecin–Pomorzany Water Treatment Plant. The tested water came from Kurowski Channel. Kurów is the river bank water intake from Kurowski Channel – an artificial arm of Western Odra River. Pumping station is situated 300 m far from the Kurowski Channel. Water is supplied to the intake chamber of the pumps using the pipeline 1400. Three pumps of Flyght CP 3305 type in the alternating system force the raw water through two pipelines 700 PE to Pomorzany Water Treatment Plant situated 3 km far from it. Kurowski Channel is supplied from the main stream of Odra River and the inflowing underground waters of Wysoczyzna. Average composition of the water coming from Kurowski Channel is much more better than the water taken directly from Odra River.
Test was done on Arkonka underground water intake. To perform it, it was constructed the model station composed of the closed gravity filter, oxygen supply system, water supply system and a mixer. For needs of the experiment it was determined the iron reduction degree, manganese reduction degree, pH determination, determination of the oxygen contents in treated water. The above determinations were to be helpful in analysis of that innovatory technology. The background for the comparison were the results of the above determinations for the aeration – filtration technological line in use on Arkona water intake. That comparison comprised the analysis of the reductive effectiveness of the particular methods with the comparison of the costs of their industrialscale operation.
Influence of the wastewater from chosen food processing industries located in Szczecin on a quality of receiver’s water was presented. The theoretical part of the paper comprises general fundamentals of the biological treatment of the wastewater, the sources of the wastewater and their impact onto a sewerage system and the receiver at meat processing and dairy industries were also presented in this part of the paper. Szczecin Dairy and Szczecin Poultry Processing Company are both equipped with biological wastewater treatment plants. The treated wastewater is discharged to the receivers that are directly linked to River Odra, thus has an impact on the quality of River Odra water. Basing on a performed research on parameters of untreated and treated wastewater, the treatment performance of the wastewater treatment plants was described as well as an attempt to estimation of an impact of the wastewater onto the receiver was made.
