The subject of research was to determine the species composition, reproductive potential, and other selected biometrical characteristics of species of weeds occurring on the fallow land. The research was conducted in the years 2006-2007 on the field kept as a fallow for the last few years, on light, low-sand clay; the last cultivated plant was winter wheat. The results were presented as means and minimum and maximum values for individual species, as well as the variation and correlation of weeds reproduction and selected biometrical features. The most reproductive species of weeds on the studied fallow land were Matricaria inodora and Cirsium arvense giving on average 4.9 thousand and 2.6 thousand seeds respectively. The intermediate reproduction level (from 484 to 699 seeds on a plant) revealed Centaura cyanus, Polygonum lapathifolium and Bromus secalinus, while Polygonum hydropiper, Avena strigosa, Stachys palustris, Galeopsis tetrahit and Setaria glanca were characterized by a low reproductive ability, with 161 to 252 seeds per specimen. There was shown a direct dependence of the reproduction ability of highly- reproductive species (Matricaria inodora, Cirsium arvense, Bromus secalinus) occurring on the fallow lands mainly on fresh and dry matter of single plants and their height, while the dependence of weed fertlility on the weight of a thousand seeds was not significant.
