Każdego roku zastosowano następujące dawki siarki siarczanowej (S-SO42-) i elementarnej (S-S0): S1- 40, S2-80 i S3-120 kg∙ha-1. Nawożenie 120 kg∙ha-1 siarki S-SO42- i S-S0 spowodowało obniżenie pH gleby w poziomie 0-40 cm. Najkorzystniej na plony kapusty, cebuli i jęczmienia jarego działały dawki 40 i 80 kg S∙ha-1, natomiast dawka 120 kg S∙ha-1 (a zwłaszcza S-SO42-) ograniczały plony uprawianych roślin. Nawożenie siarką spowodowało zwiększenie łącznego plonu suchej masy roślin dojrzałych, a szczególnie dawki 40 i 80 kg∙ha-1 S-SO42- oraz 40 kg S-S0∙ha-1.

The aim of this study was been to determine the influence of increasing rates of sulphur, applied in the form of sulphates and as a pure element, on the acidity of soil at two horizons: 0-40 and 40-80 cm, and yield of crops: cabbage, onion and spring barley. In 2000-2002 a three-year field trial was conducted in Byszwałd near Lubawa. Each year the following rates of sulphate sulphur (S-SO4) and elementary sulphur (S-S0) were used: S1 - 40, S2 - 80 and S3 - 120 kg∙ha-1. In the soil horizon of 0-40 cm in depth the triple rate of S-SO4 and S-S0 depressed the soil acidity. The acidification of soil caused by S-SO4 became evident already in the first year of the study while that resulting from the S-S0 application appeared as late as the third year. The effect of sulphur on the soil in the 40-80 horizon was irregular. The most beneficial effect on the yield of cabbage, onion and spring barley was produced by the rates of 40 and 80 kg S∙ha-1, while the rate of 120 kg S∙ha-1 (especially applied as S-SO4) reduced the yield of the crops. Sulphur fertilization led to an increase in the total dry matter yield of mature crops, particularly when applied at the rates of 40 and 80 kg S-SO4∙ha-1 as well as 40 kg S-SO0∙ha-1.
