Soil as the main source of micro and macro elements for plants, causes their growth and ontogenesis, and finally the amount and quality of crops. It seems especially significant to define availability of elements for plants and determine their potential deficiency as well as the risk resulting from excessive mobility of elements. The aim of this work was to determine the total content of Zn Cu, Mn and Fe and their fitoavailable forms in selected arable soils of Gnieźnieńskie Lake District. In the analysed samples the physico-chemical properties and the total content of metals and their DTPA extractable forms were determined. The total content of Zn, Cu and Fe in the analysed soils was at the level of geochemical background. Mn slightly exceeded the background value. On the basis of the results all soils were classified as uncontaminated by these metals. The content of DTPA extracted forms of metals was low which generally guarantees high quality crops, and rarely testifies to the deficit of these elements for plants. The total content of the analysed metals generally dependent on the texture and the content of organic matter, as proved by the results of statistical analysis.
