The effects of substrate pH on the growth of potted ferns cultivated in ebb-flow system were tested. The experiment lasted two full production cycles in winter-spring and summer-fall periods. 6 cultivars of two species of Nephrolepis exaltata and N. cordifolia were used. The acidity of peat substrate was set at: 4.5, 5.5, 5.8, 6.5 pH. The results of 11-month experiments indicate different reactions of cultivars on the substrate pH. Almost optimum level of pH for ‘Boston Blue Bell’ and ʻTeddy Junior’ is 4.5, and for ‘Cordatis’ and ʻVitro Supreme’ - 5.8. ʻSword Fern’ shows significant tolerance for pH. ‘Emerald Queen’ shows such tolerance only in the winter-spring growing periods. Substrate of pH 6.5 caused low quality of tested ferns.
