Zmienność genetyczną 30 odmian L. multiflorum z różnych krajów Europy (z Niemiec - 6, Holandii - 7, z Danii - 2, Francji - 4, Hiszpanii - 1 i z Polski - 10), scharakteryzowano pod względem zmienności fosfoglukoizomerazy (PGI).

Italian ryegrass is one of the most commonly grown grasses in Europe, Asia, both Americas, New Zealand and Japan. Because of its savouriness (the leaves have a high sugar content), the plant is used for cattle feeding in the form of valuable hay and silage. Genetic variability of 30 cultivars of Italian ryegrass from different European countries (6 from Germany, 7 from Holland, 2 from Denmark, 4 from France, 1 from Spain, and 10 from Poland) were characterized in terms of phosphoglucoseisomerase (PGI) variability. Based on genetic distances calculated for genes and phenotypes frequencies, connections between cultivars were illustrated by dendrite and dendrogram (UPGMA) respectively. The way of relations between populations indicates regional similarities and stresses the individual characters of the Polish lines.
