Preliminary studies using a vaccine against rabies were carried out on guinea pigs and cats. The vaccine was given orally at the rate of 1—3 ml or twice at the dose of 4 ml, respectively. Flury strain of the virus was used as an antigen; it was propagated in chicken embryos and applied in the from of a suspension. After 14 and 30 days following immunization the animals were challenged with the CVS strain. Besides, in cats at day 30 after vaccination serological examinations were performed for the presence of specific neutralizing antibodies. It was found that 81.7% of guinea pigs and 77.8% of cats survived the infection while in control animals (guinea pigs and cats) the percentage of mortality was 68.8% and 100%, respectively. Serological examinations displayed the presence of specific antibodies in titres from 32 to 1280; that pointed to the stimulating effect of the vaccine. According to the rules of WHO the obtained results indicated to the sufficient activity of the vaccine. These preliminary studies need, however, further studies on an increased number of animals.
