Citrobacter spp.

Quantitative and qualitative examinations of the composition of aerobic microflora of the alimentary canal of Varroa jacobsoni Oud. mites wintering on worker honey bees revealed that wintering mites similar to those fed on capped brood and on workers in spring do not contain a characteristic and well adapted intestinal microflora. Although the intestines of 90% of mites contained microbes, their concentration was low (10—120 colony forming units per mite). Amang intestinal bacteria dominated Sarcina lutea, Bacillus subtilis and Enterobacter cloacae. Candida spp., Torulopsis spp. and Aspergillus flavus were present only in intestines of 5.0% of V. jacobsoni females. Mixed microflora, in which dominated S. lutea and B. subtilis or S. lutea, В. subtilis and Citrobacter spp., was found in 65% of the mites. * Investigation was supported by the Research Program RR-II-24.
