Dominują cząstki sadzy o zróżnicowanej wielkości i morfologii. Pochodzenie licznych cząstek jest trudne do określenia (naturalne wywiewane z gleby, przemysłowe, unoszone w powietrze z ulic, placów budów i prac rozbiórkowych).

Fine aerosol particles (PM2.5) strongly influence mortality and morbidity of polluted towns inhabitants. PM2.5 concentration in Krakow is high. Monitoring of PM2.5 started in 2008. Concentration of PM 1 as well as number of particles in air are not studied systematically. Submicrometer particles (PM1) dominate the aerosol in respect of number of particles. The share of particles less than 100 nm (nanoparticles) in PM1 is significant. The dominant component of PM1 fraction. Secondary aerosols (e.g. sulphates) are also present in PM1. Particles emitted from industrial plants were determined (e.g. spherical aluminosilicate particles from power plants) or particles derived from various products (e.g. Ti02 particles). It is difficult to determine the origin of numerous particles (natural of soil origin, industrial, resuspended from streets, construction or demolition sites).
