Effect of sublethal trichlorphon doses on selenium (Na2 75SeO3) distribution in rats

Investigations were carried out on the effect of an intoxication of rats with sublethal doses of trichlorphon (100, 200 and 300 mg per kg of body weight), including animals being treated, on ⁷⁵Se distribution in tissues and organs. The animals were sacrificed three and six hours as well as one, two, four and eight days after this isotope administration and the following organs and tissues were sampled for radiometric examinations: the stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, kidneys, spleen, lungs, heart, muscles, blood, brain and prostate. The results indicate an uneven ⁷⁵Se distribution and significant differences both in accumulation and in elimination of selenium from tissues and organs as compared to the animals unintoxicated. They mostly feature a reduced, and in some organs and tissues also slowed down ⁷⁵Se accumulation and also, depending on the size of the trichlorphon dose, a slower elimination of this isotope. Treatment of animals with atropine and toxobidine had no significant effect on the degree of the radioselenium accumulation and elimination from an organism.
