W 2001 roku w reprezentatywnej próbie mieszkańców Warszawy w wieku 20-74 lata, liczącej 649 mężczyzn i 657 kobiet zebrano informacje dotyczące palenia tytoniu, wieku, wykształcenia, wykonano pomiary antropometryczne, ciśnienia krwi, poziomu lipidów oraz oceniono sposób żywienia. Porównano sposób żywienia osób palących, byłych palaczy i niepalących. Palacze spożywali więcej niż niepalący produktów mięsnych i dodanych tłuszczów zwierzęcych, natomiast mniej owoców. Różnice w zawartości składników odżywczych w diecie palaczy, byłych palaczy i niepalących, po uwzględnieniu wieku, poziomu wykształcenia i sezonu badania, były niewielkie. Nie znaleziono także różnic odnośnie do suplementacji witamin i składników mineralnych w grupach osób o różnej postawie wobec palenia. Spożycie alkoholu było wyższe wśród palaczy w porównaniu z byłymi palaczami i niepalącymi.

In 2001 the information about smoking habits, age, education level, anthropometric measures, blood pressure, lipids profile and food intake was determined in a representative sample of 649 men and 657 women aged 20-74 years from the Warsaw population. Dietary comparisons of smokers, former smokers and non-smokers were conducted. Smokers consumed more meat products and added animal fat but less fruit than former and non-smokers. The differences in nutrients intake among persons with different smoking status after adjustment for age, education and season of research, were rather small. We didn’t find any differences in vitamin and minerals supplementation among persons with different smoking status. Alcohol intake was higher in smokers than in former and non-smokers.
