Poland is a traditional and significant participant of the international trade in agri-food products. In this sector of trade the main partners are the European Union countries (especially Germany) and the countries of former Soviet Union (especially Russia). Food import in 1998 exceeded the export of food products, however recently the situation has been somewhat improved. The export of industrially processed products is increasing, while that of raw products is on the decrease. Food export to the European Union is stable, whereas the importance of eastern market till 1998 was growing. Nowadays some elements of uncertainty in food trade with Russia have been observed.
