The aim of the study was to analyze the frequency of the occurrence of Salmonella in animal fodder in the Warmia and Mazury Province in the period of 2001-2005. The compilation was prepared on the basis on the data of the Department of Veterinary Hygiene in Olsztyn. The research was performed according to the requirements of Polish Standard PN-EN ISO 6579. In the period of 2001-2005, 4,652 fodder samples were tested in the Department of Veterinary Hygiene in Olsztyn for the presence of Salmonella. 49 samples gave positive results, which accounted for 1.05%. The highest degree of fodder contamination with Salmonella was observed in 2005, and the lowest – in 2001 and 2003. The most frequently contaminated materials for fodder production included oil seeds and products (of soybean and rape in particular), as well as meat-and-bone meal, while in compound feedstuffs it was definitely wet feed intended for domestic animals. No Salmonella rods were found in any fodder additives in the samples from the entire period under discussion.
