The paper deals with oilseed crop-growing in Czech Republic in 1990-2000. Improvement of profitability of oilseed crop-growing and difficulties with market of cereals and animal products caused the increase of cultivation area of oilseed rape, poppy, sunflower and mustard during the last ten years. Among oilseed crops the most important in Czech Republic is oilseed rape. In 2000 oilseed rape was cultivated on 324 tys. ha. From 1990, in which 105 tys. ha of oilseed rape was grown, cultivated area has increased more than three times. At present about 70 tys. ha is put into oilseed rape to biodiesel production. Vegetable oil production amounted to about 800 thousand ton a year. Export of oilseed rape is also high. The big importance in export has poppy as well. Poppy is exported mainly to Poland, Germany, Russia, Holland and Slovakia. Effective farming in Czech Republic issues from the big farm area which promote introduction of mechanisation and first of all profitability of production. The big cultivation area and yields of oilseed crops in Czech Republic resulted also from very good co-operation between scientist and oilseed rape producers. High educated staff introduced the newest research results dealing with breeding, agrotechnics and plant protection into practice.
