W latach 2000-2001 scharakteryzowano 35 izolatów PVY należących do 5 szczepów wirusa Y (PVYC, PVY0, PVYN, PVYN W i PVYNTN) pod względem wykrywalności serologicznej, zdolności do wywoływania reakcji odmian ziemniaka i tytoniu o zróżnicowanym stopniu odporności na infekcję. W obrębie szczepów PVYN W i PVYNTN wyróżniono izolaty, które były zdolne do przełamania odporności tytoniu różnego pochodzenia (VAM, Wiślica, PBD6). Przy tym potwierdzono, że izolaty te pochodziły z tytoniu, z odmian odpornych uprawianych w różnych częściach Polski oraz na Węgrzech. Izolaty pozyskane wprost z ziemniaków nie przełamywały odporności VAM, a jedynie częściowo odporność odmian Wiślica i PBD6.

In 2000-2001 35 isolates of Potato virus Y (PVY) were characterized by serologic al and biological methods. These isolates represented 5 distinct strains: PVYc, PVyo, PVYN, PVYN W, PVYNTN. Among isolates belonging to PVYN W and PVYNTN isolates which are able to overcome the resistance in three tobacco cultivars (VAM, Wiślica, PBD6) were found. They were obtained from tobacco plants grown in Poland or Hungary. Isolates obtained from potato plants were able to cause only mild symptoms on cvs. Wiślica and PBD6.
