Badano wpływ zanieczyszczenia gleby kadmem na zawartość żelaza w częściach nadziemnych i korzeniach roślin uprawnych. Wykazano istotną zależność zawartości żelaza w roślinach od zanieczyszczenia gleby kadmem, gatunku i organu rośliny oraz od dodatku kompostu, węgla brunatnego, wapna i bentonitu do gleby.

The aim of the study was to assess the effect of soil contamination with cadmium (10,20,30 and 40 mg-kg"1) on the iron contents in above-ground parts and roots of oats, maize, yellow lupine and radish. In order to reduce the negative effect of cadmium on plants, the soil was supplemented as follows: (a) in the experiment with oats - compost, brown coal and lime, and (b) in the experiment with the remaining plants - the above-mentioned additions and bentonite. The iron contents in plants varied considerably and were affected by soil contamination with cadmium, plant species and parts, as well as the application of additional material to the soil. Increasing amounts of cadmium in the soil caused an increase in the iron content in straw and roots of oats and in above-ground parts of maize and yellow lupine. A relatively low effect of cadmium was observed in the roots of maize and yellow lupine while the of iron contents decreased in above-ground parts a roots of radish. The application of compost, brown coal, lime and bentonite to the soil involved the greatest changes in the content of iron in above-ground parts of yellow lupine, as well as in above-ground parts and the roots of radish. These effects were negative and were the most pronounced after the application of brown coal.
