A personalized history and evolution of herbal practise in the United States and the major laws that affect its marketing and standardization. Some consideration is given to the clinical testing and clinical use of botanical commodities. Ten guidelines are suggested that would probably promote patient welfare, rational herbal use, and a more rapid determination of herbal effectiveness and safety.
