EN
The article describes different types and generations of antibiotics and their application in the therapy of swine respiratory diseases. It reviews the present state of knowledge regarding the mode of action, recommended usage and pharmacokinetic properties of antibiotics administered mostly in trial cases of infectious respiratory problems in pigs. The routine use of antibiotics in veterinary practice is presented above all in respect to their antibacterial efficacy in treating the main pathogens of porcine respiratory tracts and their clinical efficacy. The article also describes advanced developments in new directions of antibiotic therapy. The antibacterial drugs presented in it have been selected mainly from the point of view of their utility in the treatment and prophylaxis of PRDC, pleuropneumonia, and mycoplasm infections in pigs. The article also gives a broad description of the potential risks involved with the rise of drug-resistance as the result of incorrect antibiotic applications, and new perspectives in counteracting this phenomena.
