The aim of the study was to determine the effect of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) on blood flow in the uterine artery of immature and mature pigs, as well as the interaction between CGRP and its C-terminal fragment [Tyr0]CGRP(28-37) in the uterine artery of mature animals in vivo. It was indicated that CGRP relaxes the uterine artery to a similar degree in both immature and mature pigs. [Tyr0]CGRP(28-37) administered as an intra-arterial bolus injection neither affected blood pressure nor antagonized the actions of CGRP. It was concluded that CGRP-induced relaxation of the porcine uterine artery occurs independently of steroid hormone concentrations and that [Tyr0]CGRP(28-37) does not affect CGRP activity.
