W czynnikowym doświadczeniu wazonowym, przeprowadzonym w fitotronowej komorze wzrostowej, badano wpływ suszy i niedoboru azotu na zakres i spektrum zmienności genetycznej cech pędu i systemu korzeniowego odmian i diallelicznych mieszańców F₂ pszenicy ozimej. Zjaryzowane siewki rosły do stadium krzewienia (stadium 21/22 Zadoksa) w specjalnych wazonach (tzw.

Effects of water and nitrogen shortages on the range and type of genetic variation in shoot and root characters of cultivars and diallel F₂ hybrids of winter wheat were studied in a factorial pot-experiment done in a fully conditioned growth cabinet. Vernalized seedlings were grown up to the tillering stage (21/22 Zadoks’ stage) in special pots (‘root box’) under varied water and nitrogen content in the growth medium. Considerable genotypic differences were found for all the characters studied. The broadest genetic variation was observed for the stress resistance, root : shoot ratio and for the weight, specific length and branching of roots, while the most narrow one - for the average length of lateral roots and leaf water potential. The cv. ‘Mironovska 808’ developed the biggest root system, but its hybrids formed very fine and less branched roots. Among the hybrids, the relatively highest rooting capacity exhibited the hybrid progenies of the British cvs. 'Maris Huntsman’ and ‘Kris'. The response of the parental forms and their hybrids to the used stresses was genetically specific. The genotypes of a higher and faster growth potential usually exhibited the greatest sensitivity to the water and nitrogen shortages. The genotype-growth medium interactions showed significant effects on the variance of most characters studied.
