The samples of muscles, liver and kidney from 30 young beef cattle aged from 2 to 2.5 years imported from Lithuania were collected in October and November 1992. The mean level of mercury detected in October was as follows: in muscles 0.0021 mg kg" , liver 0.0057, kidney cortex 0.0141 and medulla of kidney 0.0032. Average mercury concentrations fund in the samples from cattle slaughtered in November were: 0.0023 mg kg' , 0.0061, 0.0146 and 0.0034, respectively. The results indicate that mercury levels in cattle under study were low compared with the concentrations observed in animals from other countries. Strictly positive correlations of mercury in given tissues were noted with the exception of the medulla of kidney.
