Spośród zbadanych gatunków ptaków bardzo duże stężenia fluoru zawarte są w kościach orłów bielików. Wykazano silną korelację stężenia fluoru pomiędzy częściami układu kostnego (kość udowa, ramieniowa, mostka) kormoranów (r = 0,99). Upierzenie ptaków morskich cechuje male stężenie fluoru. U takich gatunków ryb jak babka obła i stornia stężenie fluoru w kościach dodatnio korelowało z powiększeniem się masy ciała ryb.

Fluorine was determined in the bones and feathers of marine birds (Phalacrocorax carbo, Gavia stellata, Podiceps cristatus, Cepphus grylle, Clangula hyemalis and Aythya fuligula), bones of fish (Neogobius melanostomus, Platychthis flesus, Gadus morhua) and shells of molluscs (Mylitus edulis, Macoma baltica and Cardium glaucum) taken from the Gulf of Gdańsk and nord-westpart of Poland (white-tailed eagle). The pre-investigations and the obtained results seem to suggest a background concentration of fluorine in the examined animals. From the environmental viewpoint, fluorine pollution was associated with the presence of a phosphate fertilizer plant and a landfill depot of phosphate wastes located in close vicinity of the Gulf of Gdańsk. Further investigation into the bioaccumulation of fluorine in a wide variety of animals from the Gulf and Dead Vistula Channel is necessary.
