EN
This paper provides an overview of worldwide development and current status of precision farming. The development and application of precision farming technology to crop production offers the scope for improved management practices and targeting of inputs. Profitability issues have constrained adoption of precision farming. Currently available databases do not adequately represent the required range of climate and site variations to understand the within field relationship of yields to yield-limiting factors. For maximum effectiveness in the development of integrated precision farming systems, it is important to take an interdisciplinary team approach, including engineers, agricultural scientists, agribusiness and industry representatives, and the producers.
