The evaluation of seroprevalence of Aujeszky’s disease (AD) in Poland and the infection rate of pig population in our country are basic requirements of implementing an AD eradication programme. The aim of the presented study was to evaluate the AD seroprevalence in Polish pig population in the years 2005-2007. In the aforementioned period a total of 75416 swine serum samples from all 16 voivodeships were tested. Out of them, 17606 samples were tested in 2005, 19779 in 2006 and 38031 in 2007. In 2005 the mean percentage of seropositive pigs was 0.39%, and such animals were found in 43.75% of the tested voivodeships. In 2006 seropositive animals were found in 56.25% of the tested voivodeships, and the mean percentage of seropositive pigs was 0.55%. In the year 2007 the mean percentage of positive seroreagents was 0.2%, and they were found in 12.5% of the tested voivodeships. The results presented above demonstrate that the mean percentage of seropositive pigs during the period of 2005-2007 remained at a relatively low level of 0.34%. However, the percentage of voivodeships where seropositive pigs have been found was quite high, and amounted to 62.5%. This result indicates the urgent necessity to undertake an AD eradication programme in Poland according to epidemiological situation found in different regions of our country.
