The study was carried out on 24 animals chosen from a herd with many cases of diseases in the first period of lactation after parturition. The period from the 7th month of pregnancy to the 5th month of lactation was analysed taking into account the kind of nourishment, housing, productivity and also physical examinations every month, as well as the basic blood indexes. It was found that the health disturbances of the primiparous cows after parturition were caused by lack of movement, low-protein nourishment during pregnancy, stress due to change of cowsheds and rapid administration of dry foodstuffs whose quantity was related entirely with milk production. The above mentioned errors brought about marked changes in the metabolic indexes of blood indicated by high lipolysis and liver disturbances; all these factors facilitated the development of various diseases. Special attention was paid to hypoproteinaemia and hypocholesteraemia before parturition and high indexes of bilirubin and AspAT in the first half of lactation.
