Jeździectwo jest w ostatnich dziesięcioleciach najbardziej rozwojową dziedziną rekreacji ruchowej. Tymczasem rozwój industrialny i przyjęte w Polsce regulacje prawne stanowią istotne ograniczenia tego zjawiska, generujące konflikty. Stroną owych konfliktów bywają nadleśnictwa, gdyż to właśnie nadleśniczym pozostawiono decyzje o ewentualnym udostępnieniu do jazdy konnej lasu poprzez tzw. szlaki konne. Z analizy danych o istniejących dziś w Polsce szlakach konnych próbujemy wyciągnąć wnioski: Czym w istocie jest szlak konny? Jaka była rola poszczególnych nadleśnictw w procesie tworzenia szlaków? Czy oprócz faktu udostępnienia terenu zastosowano normy porządkowe, regulaminy, umowy itp.? Czy i jakie koszty poniesiono w związku z utworzeniem szlaku? Czy zaobserwowano negatywny wpływ funkcjonowania szlaku na las? Całkowicie z inicjatywy Lasów Państwowych (LP) powstał Szlak Konny Puszczy Augustowskiej i Mazur. Celem jego powołania było umożliwienie rozwoju rekreacji jeździeckiej, promowanie regionu, podniesienie jego atrakcyjności, przedłużenie sezonu turystycznego oraz promocja LP.

Horse riding is in the last decades the fastest developing recreation type. Meanwhile, industrial development and adoption of the Polish legal regulations are generating conflicts and are acting against this phenomenon. Forest District Inspectorates tend to be the party to these conflicts, as it is them to decide whether to remain open for horse riding in the forest on so called horse trails. The analysis of data on existing routes in Poland today the horse makes us try to draw conclusions: What in fact is a horse trail? What was the role of the various forest districts in the process of creating trails? Whether in addition to make the area accesible were there applied standards, regulations, contracts, etc.? Whether and what costs were incurred in connection with the establishment of the trail? Whether were there observed adverse effects of the trail on the functioning of the forest? Entirely on the initiative of the State Forests (LP) was the Augustow Forest and Mazury Equestrian Trail created. The purpose of its establishment was to enable the development of recreational riding, promoting the region, increasing its attractiveness, extending the tourist season and the promotion of LP.
