Badania farmakologiczne potwierdziły możliwość zastosowania korzenia Platycodon grandiflorum w terapii chorób górnych dróg oddechowych. W oparciu o badania fitochemiczne wykazano korelację pomiędzy barwą kwiatów a zawartością substancji aktywnych w korzeniach. Do oceny zmienności w obrębie gatunku zastosowano metodę PCR- RAPD. Analizy genetyczne pozwoliły na wyodrębnienie stabilnych, polimorficznych wzorów prążkowych charakterystycznych dla roślin o kwiatach białych i niebieskich.

Phytochemical analyses confirmed possibility to use of root (Platycodi radix) of Platycodon grandiflorum in treatment of upper respiratory tract diseases. Special attention is paid to establish the connection between colors of the flowers and saponins contents in plant roots. Researches have been carried out using PCR-RAPD method. Several primers allowed to generate stable band patterns typical of white and blue flowers.
