Badania dotyczące żywienia przeprowadzono w okresie zimowym 2001 roku wśród 137 osobowej kohorty studentów I roku Wydziału Lekarskiego AM w Białymstoku.. Ocenę ilościową żywienia młodzieży akademickiej prowadzono metodą wywiadu 24-godzinne- go, a następnie zawartość magnezu i cynku obliczono w oparciu o program komputerowy FOOD 2. Uzyskane wyniki porównano z normami bezpiecznymi ustalonymi przez Instytut Żywności i Żywienia w Warszawie dla osób o umiarkowanej aktywności fizycznej. Studentki spożywały średnio 238,5 mg magnezu/osobę/dobę, a studenci 304,0 mg. Spożycie tego makroelementu w diecie studentów stanowiło ponad 80% realizacji poziomu bezpiecznego. Średnie spożycie cynku przez kobiety wynosiło 8,5 mg/osobę/dobę (85,0% realizacji normy bezpiecznej), a u mężczyzn 13,5 mg (96,4% realizacji normy bezpiecznej). Przeprowadzone badania wskazują na nieco niższą zawartość badanych biopierwiastków w odniesieniu do przyjętych norm.

In winter 2001, a study on nutrition was conducted on 137 first-year students of the Medical Faculty, the Medical Academy in Białystok. Quantitative evaluation of nutrition among the students was performed using a 24-hour history followed by the analysis of Mg and Zn levels calculated with a computer programme FOOD 2. The results were compared to the safe norms established by the Institute of Food and Nutrition in Warsaw for people of moderate physical activity. The women consumed on average 238.5 mg Mg/person/day, while the men 304.0 mg. The intake of this macroelement in the men's diet constituted over 80% of the safe level. The mean consumption of zinc by the women was 8.5mg/ person/day(85.0% of safenorm), and 13.5 mg (96.4% of safe norm) by the men. The study has demonstrated a slightly insufficient content of these bioelements with reference to the recommended norms.
