Biotechnology in Poland is one of the topics strongly presented in political, market and lay people debates. In Poland, similarly as in European Union and other Central Europe states, we have to recognise several basically different aspects of modern biotechnology, usually identified with genetic engineering: economy, science and public attitudes. Unfortunately, we are observing much more yension based on dogmas and common talks than on solid scientific facts. The most important aspects are: transfer of innovative technology from laboratory tothe industry, co-operation between academia and industry, legislation system and public perception. Polish legislation system is anational copy (the so called „gene law") of European directives and fulfils all the conditions of the major international convention, including Biosafety Protocol of Cartagena, Biodiversity Convention, TRIPs, intellectual propety right (patenting) system.
