Infl uence of residual forest patches on the soil temperature and light intensity on cut areas. The study compared the results of measurements of soil temperature and light intensity on the retention forests ranging in size from 6 to 19 acres and mature pine stand, measurements were made during the period from November to May. It has been shown that patches of old forest left on cut areas modify microclimate conditions. In November and December, the soil was signifi cantly warmer than the on the open area of a cut. In March, the temperature leveled out, while in April and May soil of residual forests was signifi cantly cooler than the surface of the cut area and was close to the ambient temperature in the mature stand. The greatest intensity of light was observed in the cut area and the lowest in the mature stand. On the patches of old forest, this parameter reached intermediate values. Clearly stronger impact on the climate conditions was observed on patches larger than 12 acres.
