Research objective was to determine socio-demographic profile, the barriers that hinder physical activity and the motivation of women involved in some forms of fitness activity. The popularity of various forms of activities and the frequency of exercise undertaken, were also determined. The research was conducted in September 2015 among women attending the Academy of Fitness in Racibórz. The research group consisted of 67 women. Age varied, ranging from 21 – 68 years. For the purpose of this research, a diagnostic survey method was applied, using a questionnaire as a research tool. The questionnaire was completed, using the traditional method. The women participating in the study generally had a higher education and were economically active. The respondents most frequently participated in activities 2 – 3 times per week. The main motive behind their choice of physical activity was a concern for health. ABT (Abdominal Buttocks Things) and TBC (Total Body Conditioning) classes were the most popular. The most common reasons given for choosing these kinds of activities were mainly: concern for health, better posture and the atmosphere in the class. In the opinion of the respondents, lack of motivation as well as health are usually barriers to physical activity. Physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle regardless of age.
