Philadelphus coronaries L. is valuable woody plant in landscape design of urban areas. It leads to the increasing demand in these shrubs, especially their decorative cultivars for arrangement of green spaces in cities. Therefore, study of effective reproduction methods for production of high quality Ph. coronarius planting stock is a problem of today. Propagation by stem cuttings is the most commonly used method, but the possibility to reproduce it on a large scale really exists due to development in vitro. In the present paper we were adjusted the most effective sterilization method for explants of cultivars Philadelphus genus before introduction to in vitro culture. The lowest rate of explants contaminated by mycosis and bacillosis in our experiment was observed after sterilization during 0.5 min in 70% solution of C2H5OH and 4 min sterilization in 0.1% solution HgCl2.

Philadelphus coronaries L. jest drzewiastą rośliną, cenną w projektowaniu krajobrazu obszarów miejskich. Rosnące zapotrzebowanie na te krzewy, a zwłaszcza ich dekoracyjne odmiany stosowane w aranżacji miejskich terenów zielonych, wymusza poszukiwanie skutecznych metod reprodukcji do produkcji wysokiej jakości sadzonek Ph. Coronarius. Obecnie najczęściej stosowaną metodą produkcji sadzonek jest rozmnażanie przez cięcie łodygi, jednakże wykorzystanie go na dużą skalę nie jest możliwe, gdyż tylko rozwój metod in vitro daje taką możliwość. W niniejszym artykule dostosowano najbardziej efektywne metody sterylizacji eskplantatów odmian rodzaju Philadelphus przed wprowadzeniem do in vitro. W toku przeprowadzonych badań zaobserwowano, iż najniższy wskaźnik eskplantatów porażonych chorobami grzybowymi i bakteryjnymi uzyskano po 5 min sterylizacji w 70% roztworze C2H5OH i 4 min sterylizacji w roztworze 0,1% HgCl2.
