Uzyskane w pracy wyniki wskazują na istnienie zależności pomiędzy pobieraniem i akumulacją kadmu w liściach kukurydzy i obecnością selenu w środowisku. Jony kadmu w badanych stężeniach obniżają zawartość barwników chlorofilowych (chlorofilu a i b) w liściach kukurydzy. Dodanie selenu do pożywek zawierających CdCl2 powoduje przyrost produkcji świeżej i suchej masy, zawartości wody oraz zawartości chlorofilu a i b, w porównaniu do roślin poddanych działaniu samego chlorku kadmu.

One of the most important factors determining the uptake, accumulation and distribution of nutrient elements in plant tissues is the interaction between the ions of some elements and the effect of physiologically important substances. In this work the relationship between the accumulation of selenium, cadmium and content of chlorophylls pigments in leaves of Zea mays L. was studied. The experiments were carried out with 7-10 days old maize plants grown on the Hoaglanďs medium. Seeds of maize were cultivated for four days in the darkness at 27°C on the moist filter paper. Than the individual seedlings were transferred into the aerated solution containing the macro- and microelements, and next cultivated in the green house for 12 hours in light and 12 hours in darkness at 25°C. The seedlings were exposed to the solution containing SeO2 at the concentration of 10-6 mol·dm-3 and CdCl2 (concentration of 10-3 mol·dm-3 and 10-4 mol·dm-3) about 72 hours before chemical analysis, pH of the medium was 6.5. The accumulation of cadmium in seedlings of maize was measured by emission spectroscopy using the spectrometer with excitation by argon inductively coupled plasma technique (ICP-OES). The amount of chlorophyll pigments was determined by the spectrophotometer UV-Vis. The results presented in this work indicate the relationship between the uptake and accumulation of cadmium in the leaves of maize plants and the presence of SeO2 and CdCl2 in the external medium of growing plants. The study shows that the content of water in plants, mass of plants and content of chlorophyll a and b in maize leaves depends on the concentration of cadmium and selenium in the external medium.
