The authors investigated chemical properties of the layer 0-10 cm of road-side soils along roads existing on arable area. The four zones of the roadside were determined; the border of the roadside was directly adjacent to the road and the furthest removed from the road was the escarpment. The following properties were analyzed: salinity, pHKCl, hydrolytic acidity, content of C org. and exchangeable cations (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+). It was noted that in sorption complex of soils, in the distance up to 2 m from the road, predominant element was the exchangeable sodium, what caused the deficit of bivalent cations there (magnesium and calcium).
