W oczyszczaniu ścieków bytowych czy komunalnych ważną rolę odgrywają oczyszczalnie hydrofitowe. Celem pracy było określenie zdolności przęstki pospolitej do usuwaniu potasu, wapnia, magnezu i sodu z roztworów zanieczyszczonych surowym ściekiem miejskim bądź osadem ściekowym. Sadzonki Hippuris vulgaris zasadzono w wazonach z glebą gliniastą, a następnie dodano specjalnie przygotowane pożywki sporządzone z różnych dawek miejskiego ścieku surowego i osadu ściekowego. Przęstka pospolita efektywnie w oczyszczaniu roztworów zanieczyszczonych ściekiem i osadem ściekowym. Roślina ta w największym stopniu redukuje w roztworach stężenia sodu, a w mniejszym zaś stopniu stężenia potasu, wapnia i magnezu.

The use of hydrophyte decontaminators plays a significant role in decontaminating household and municipal sewage. The goal of this research was to determine the capability of Hippuris vugaris to eliminate the potassium, calcium, magnesium and sodium ions from solutions contaminated with raw municipal sewage or sewage sludge. The seedlings of Hippuris vulgaris were planted in pots with clay soil with 3 doses of raw sewage and 2 doses of sewage sludge from a sewage treatment plant. The concentrations of K, Ca, Mg and Na in the solutions and plants were measured at the begining, after 6 and 12 weeks using the AAS technique. It was proved, that in the solutions and soils contaminated with raw municipal sewage or sewage sludge the number of Hippuris vulgaris was higher in all objects than in the control object. Hippuris vulgaris effectively takes part in decontaminating the solutions of sewage and sewage sludge. This plant reduces mostly the sodium ions in the solutions and also in smaller quantities the potassium, calcium and magnesium ions.
