Outdoor noise propagation, is infl uenced by the energy of the sound source as well as properties of the medium in which acoustic waves travel. Elements of component phenomena, popularly called meteorological phenomena, infl uence noise energy propagation in open area, shaping the air mass dynamic. Two case studies are offered: the city of Łódź (Poland) and Montelimar (France). The comparison shows that the infl uence of meteorological conditions on noise propagation may make it easier to design and take urban decisions concerning the location of noisegenerating facilities.
