Metallurgical plant in Trzebinia had been in operation since the 50-s of the 19th century; in 1914 it was the biggest zinc smelter in the Empire of Austria-Hungary. The production profile had been changed a number of times before the closure of the plant in 1999. Since then, contaminants they have not been emitted directly to the environment, but soil, land surface and underground water are still degraded physically and chemically. The nature alone will not deal with it.
