In years 2007-2008 the effect of planting time of Lachenalia cv. ‘Namakwa’ bulbs on the yield and quality of flowers and bulbs was investigated. Obtained results showed that in 2007 the quality of inflorescence stems worsened along with subsequent date of planting. The bulbs planted on 27 April and 11 May produced longest stems as compared with bulbs planted on 27 May and 8 June. Bulbs from June term of planting formed the fewest flowers per inflorescence and gave the lowest yield. In 2008 somewhat different results were obtained - the bulbs planted on 8 June formed the longest inflorescence stems but the yield of flowers was eight times worse than yield from bulbs planted on 27 April. The time of planting was irrelevant to the quantitative yield of bulbs but later planting time unfavourably affected the quality of bulbs.
