The aim of the studies carried out in the years 2006-2007 was to determine the effect of differentiated doses of cadmium (1.4; 2.8; 28 mg∙dm-3) on the content of Fe, Cu, Zn and Mn in leaves and roots of three clones of basket willow: Bjor, Jorr and Tora, cultivated in aquatic cultures. A significant influence was recorded of cadmium on the content of determined microelements in the examined organs of willow. The contamination of medium with cadmium caused a decrease in the content of all the examined microelements in leaves, and Cu, Zn and Mn in roots of the examined clones of basket willow. Clone Jorr, when cadmium was applied to the medium, was characterised by a larger capability of storing zinc, manganese and iron in leaves and zinc in roots than clones of Bjor and Tora, whereas clone Bjor under similar conditions stored copper in larger quantities. A significant increase in the accumulation of iron in roots under the influence of a 2.8 mg Cd∙dm-3 dose in the medium was observed in clones Bjor and Jorr. Whereas clone Tora cumulated this element at a similar level independently of the concentration of cadmium in the medium.
