In this paper a research was carried out on urban heat island intensity during heating seasons 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 considerably different in terms of meteorological conditions. Data coming from automatic gauguing stations published by WIOŚ were used for that purpose. A reference point for urban heat island intensity calculation was the data from regional background station in Legionowo. It was found that exceptionally cold weather in January 2006, shaped by the infl uence of long-lasting high pressure systems, caused the creation of a heat island of high intensity.
