The health statusof triticale grown in conventional tillage and direct sowing was studied at Swojec Agricultural Experimental Station, near Wrocław in 1998–2001. Tillage method had a high impact on the infestation of stem bases by Fusarium spp. During three years of research triticale grown in direct sowing was more strongly affected by these fungi than in the traditional cultivation. Percentage of Fusarium spp. in infected plants was very high, especially in direct sowing (80% of total isolatious). The most often isolated fungus was Gibberella avenacea, which inhabited mainly triticale grown in direct sowing. F. culmorum appeared in infected tissues less numerously.
