Wybrane cechy fenotypowe potwierdziły przynależność izolatów do Xaj. Wyniki analiz genetycznych (PCR MP oraz ERIC-, BOX-, REP-PCR) wskazały na wysokie podobieństwo badanych izolatów do szczepu referencyjnego CFBP 7179 X. a. pv. juglandis.

Xanthomonas arboricola pv. juglandis (Xaj) as the causal agent of bacterial walnut blight has not been discovered and identified in Poland yet. However, symptoms of this disease well known from literature are observed on Persian walnut trees, both in orchards and small home gardens as well as along roads for many years. Isolations from samples of symptomatic leaves and fruits collected in 3 regions (Wielkopolska, Upper Silesia and Skierniewice area) gave 17 bacterial isolates with morphology resembling Xaj. DNA of 12 of them were amplified with X1 and X2 primers specific for genus Xanthomonas. In pathogenicity test the on unripe walnut fruits those isolates caused typical symptoms i.e. black necrotic lesions covering almost all thickness of the pericarp. Selected phenotypic characters confirmed their affinity to Xaj. Results of genetic analyses (PCR MP and ERIC-, BOX-, REP-PCR) indicate high similarity of the studied isolates to the reference strain CFBP 7179 of X. a. pv. juglandis.
