Cztero- i pięcioletnie rośliny stewarcji (Stewartia pseudocamellia MAXIM.), uprawiano w pojemnikach o pojemności 5 dm3 w warunkach polowych. Krzewy nawożono azotem w formie - amonowej NH4+ i azotanowej NO3- przy dwóch odczynach podłoża pH 3,9 i pH 5,5. Jako wyjściowe przyjęto następujące zawartości składników w podłożu (mg∙dm-3): 200 N, 70 P, 160 K i 20 Mg. Rośliny w ciągu sezonu dwukrotnie nawożono pogłównie w oparciu o analizę podłoża. Na koniec każdego sezonu wegetacyjnego liczono i mierzono długość jednorocznych przyrostów. W pierwszym sezonie wegetacyjnym najwięcej pędów wytworzyły krzewy nawożone formą amonową, jednak nie odnotowano różnic w długości przyrostów. W drugim roku trwania doświadczenia nie obserwowano różnic w liczbie pędów jednorocznych, a pomiary długości przyrostów nie dały jednoznacznych wyników. Łączna długość przyrostów jednorocznych, którą uzyskały krzewy sugeruje, że stewarcje lepiej wykorzystały azot w formie amonowej. Jednak najwięcej pędów odroślowych wydały krzewy nawożone formą azotanową, niezależnie od odczynu podłoża, w jakim je uprawiano.

The study was conducted on four- or five-year-old plants of Stewartia (Stewartia pseudocamellia MAXIM.), grown in 5 dm3 containers under field conditions. The shrubs were fertilized with two nitrogen forms: ammonia NH4+ and nitrate NO3- at the substrate pH levels of 3.9 and 5.5. The following nutrient contents (mg∙dm-3) in the substrate were adopted: 200 N, 70 P, 160 K and 20 Mg. During the season the plants were top-dressed twice according to substrate analysis. Annual shoot number and annual shoot length were counted and measured at the end of every vegetation season. During the 1st year of cultivation the shrubs fertilized with ammonia NH4+ form produced higher number of shoots than the ones treated with nitrate NO3- - form, yet no differences in shoot elongation were noticed between the two groups. No dissimilarities in number of annual shoots were observed in the 2nd year of experiment. Also, the results of shoot length measurement were indefinite. Observation of overall annual shoot length allows to state that Stewartia plants made better use of nitrogen in ammonia NH4+ form. However, more abundant epicormic growth appeared on the shrubs fertilized with nitrate NO3- - form, irrespective of the pH of soil the plants were cultivated in.
