Przedstawiono stan polskiego mleczarstwa na tle tego sektora w UE. Scharakteryzowano w ten sposób: produkcję mleka i jego przetworów, spożycie artykułów mleczarskich oraz ich udział w handlu międzynarodowym. Stan ten poddano ocenie, a na jej podstawie wskazano prawdopodobny kierunek rozwoju polskiego mleczarstwa.

The aim ofthe present study was to determine the current state andprospects for development ofthe Polish dairy industry, paying particular attention to its competitiveness on the uniform EU market. The study was based on secondary data contained in statistical reports. It was found that milk production in Poland, as compared to the other EU member states, is less intensive and characterized by a lower yield of marketable output. Milk production per capita is at the same level in Poland and in the EU-25. However, total consumption of milk and milk products is considerably lower in Poland. Poland’s share in the EU-25 market of dairy products roughly corresponds to our share in milk production (8.3%). Poland has the highest market share in the production of skim milk powder (13.4%) and cream (11.0%). The Polish dairy sector is poorly linked to the international market.
