The appraisal of suitability of areas causing agricultural problems is a complex issue, which is influenced by various factors, including environmental, economical or political ones. Furthermore, the interests of various communities can differ. Owing to complexity of the factors, the problem should be treated in a complex way. The work discusses viability of the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method as a tool in assessing suitability of problem land surfaces agricultural use. To illustrate the method, a process of selecting specific plants for cultivation in a problem area is described. The purpose of the presented example is to familiarize the readers with this complex method which, thanks to taking into account multiple parameters and relationships between them, increases the probability of choices being correct.
