Wstęp: Żywieniowcy rekomendują, że śniadanie powinno być spożywane każdego dnia zwłaszcza przez najmłodszych. Rotą śniadania jest dostarczenie energii niezbędnej do prawidłowej, codziennej pracy i rozwoju młodego organizmu. Skutkiem opuszczania śniadań może być podwyższone ryzyko zachorowania na przewlekłe choroby. Cel pracy: Celem pracy była ocena częstości i jakości spożywanych śniadań przez warszawską młodzież w wieku 11 - 15 lat zbadaną w latach 2005 - 2006 oraz wpływ ich spożywania na masę ciała. Materiał i metody. Badanie przeprowadzono w latach 2005 - 2006 w wylosowanych 22 szkołach i 86 klasach w obrębie całej Warszawy. Łącznie zbadano 1054 uczniów (554 dziewcząt i 500 chłopców). Sposób żywienia oceniono metodą bezpośredniego wywiadu o spożyciu z ostatnich 24 - godzin. Wyniki: Zawarte w I i II śniadaniach energia i składniki pokarmowe pokrywały w dużych procentach całodzienne zapotrzebowanie. Zapotrzebowanie na energię było realizowane w 17,3 - 20,5%, na białko aż w 24,6 - 43,1%, Zapotrzebowanie na składniki mineralne było pokryte od 14,0 - 34,5% w zależności od składnika i posiłku. Natomiast dzienne zalecenia dla witamin były realizowane w 12,6 - 56,7% w zależności od rodzaju witamin i analizowanych posiłków. Wnioski: I i II śniadania dostarczają znacznych ilości energii i kluczowych składników odżywczych, takich jak: białko ogółem, witaminy: A, C, B₁, B₂, B₆, czy magnez przyczyniając się w znacznym stopniu do lepszej realizacji przez młodzież codziennego zapotrzebowania, jak również stanowiąc znaczną część w odniesieniu do całodziennego spożycia. Istotnie niższe wskaźniki BMI u młodzieży spożywającej śniadania potwierdziły, że niespożywanie śniadań może przyczyniać się do rozwoju otyłości.

Introduction: Nutritionists recommend that breakfast should be eaten every day especially for adolescent and children. The role of the breakfast is to provide the energy needed for proper, daily work and development of the young organism. The effect of lowering the breakfast may be an increased risk of developing chronic disease. Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the frequency and quality of breakfast consumed by the Warsaw youth aged 11 - 15 years examined in 2005 - 2006 and the impact of their consumption on body weight. Materials and methods: The study was conducted in 2005 - 2006 in randomly selected 22 schools and 86 classrooms throughout Warsaw. A total of 1054 tested students (554 girls and 500 boys). Mode of nutrition were assessed by direct method 24 hour recall. Results: Consumed in the first and second breakfast in energy and nutrients covered in a large percentage of the all day demand for these ingredients. The demand for the energy value was performed in 17,3 - 20,5% protein until 24,6 - 43,1%, demand for minerals in the analyze breakfast was coated on the 14,0 - 34,5%, depending the component and the meal. In contrast; the daily recommendations for vitamins were performed in 12,6 - 56,7% depending on the typ of vitamins and analyzed meals. Conclusions. I and II breakfast provide significant energy and key nutrients such as total protein, vitamins A, C, B₁, B₂, B₆ and magnesium contribute significantly to the implementation of their daily demand, as well as a significant part of with respect to the all-day consumption. Significantly lower BMI in adolescents consuming breakfast confirmed that not taking breakfast may contribute to the prevalence of obesity in adolescents.
