The experiments were carried out in 1995-1997 on arable land situated in the highland area near Brzesko to assess mixtures of Arrhenatherum elatius with legumes: Trifolium pratense and Medicago media against the background of its pure culture. While Arrhenatherum elatius was sown as pure culture the shares of both components (grass + legume) in the mixture were 507« each. Average for three years yields of dry mass for Arrhenatherum elatius were similar as for its mixture with Trifolium pratense. On the other hand the mixture of Arrhenatherum elatius with Medicago media yielded yearly 1 t less dry mass per hectare. In respect of energy and crude protein yield the mixture of Arrhenatherum elatius with Trifolium pratense was the best. For , 2-3 year utilisation Trifolium pratense is more suitable for cultivation in mixtures. However, for longer utilisation Medicago media seems more useful due to its dynamic development in the years after sowing.
