In following article, there is a short history of university development all over the world presented. This history is presented on the base of literature quoted in article. In the first part of article there are presented features which were typical on every stage of university development. Also there were presented reasons which bring to changes in university structure and character. At the end of this part of article there were presented changes which take place at universities in present time and on the base of this presentation there were idea of creating spin-off companies surrounding university. This idea carry on to the better fitting university to the current economic situation – mainly transfer of modern technologies.
